Problem Description
Build up of fertilizer caused fans to vibrate and constantly go out of balance. This required a shut-down every two weeks for the fans to be sandblasted for removing the build up. Approximately one tonne of garnet was used in this process.

Imatech Solution
The fans were lined with an IMATECH ceramic composite providing a high gloss finish with superior abrasion resistance.

The Results
The fans now remain unaffected for a period of approx 4 months, and they can then be cleaned using low pressure water only. Based on the success of the ceramic lining the customer decided to trial various other, non-Imatech, lining systems. Customer found that none of them managed to last very long at all due to the abrasive nature of the fertilizer.

The plant now specifies that all scrubber fans are lined with Imatech composites.
