Reactor Agitator Life Extension

Industry
Mineral Processing

Site
WA, Australia

Application
Reactor Agitator Assembly

Problem Description
Although the agitators are fabricated from 316L and 904L S/Steel they were still experiencing an unacceptably short service life due to constant immersion in dilute Sulphuric Acid up to 90 deg C. with a mild level of abrasion. The exposed assemblies are typically losing up to 40% of their mass within a 9 month period.

Imatech Solution
After abrasive blasting a newly fabricated assembly Imatech applied ARC 890 to the leading edge of all six impeller blades in order to reduce increased wear which is anticipated with an extended service life. Two coats of ARC 855HT were then spray applied to the entire surface of all six blades. The exposed surface of the shaft was also coated with ARC 855HT
