Problem Description
Areas of volute always wear heavily due to the sharp angular carbon medium. Volute walls typically have uneven wear around casing. If left in service and unchecked the volutes do require welding.

Imatech Solution
The customer sent the original volute to Imatech to line and repair 9th of October 2006. In February 2007 they replaced with a completely lined Imatech MX1 volute. This Volute was lined with 6mm of ARC MX1 and removed from Service in October 2007. The original MX1 volute lasted 12 months and was only patched once in the time. According to the customer it was - probably due to the commissioning of the mill, low production, etc”. - The 2nd volute lasted 12 months also but was patched twice and now we only have fully lined Imatech MX1 volutes in”.

The client was - patching” the volutes in situ with a generic ceramic like compound.
This generic product rapidly wore out in operating conditions. The client now correctly prepares and repairs in situ with ARC MX1 when required.

The Results
MX1 lined Volutes now manage 12 months of abrasion.
