our culture
In this section, we profile some of the most prominent initiatives and organization principles that help define our culture.
Our employees are critical to the success of Imatech. The Imatech workforce operates in an entrepreneurial environment which instills a sense of ownership for each individual in his or her area of the business. The company structure treats and rewards each employee as a profit centre. This unique arrangement, which is supported by proprietary business systems, fosters a responsive and customer-focused climate and keeps the organisation dynamic and flexible to efficiently meet changing market, customer and technical challenges.
We have over the years developed a highly successful technique in selecting suitable employees, which is strictly applied to the recruitment of all our key personnel. Potential candidates are assessed for the appropriate balance of un-trainable personality characteristics pertaining to persuasiveness, interpersonal skills, problem-solving & decision-making and personal organisation skills & time management. Once employed, Imatech offers continual scope and encouragement for ongoing development and self-realisation to sharpen personal skills and build deeper knowledge. Imatech is able to attract and retain the best people in the workforce, and to leverage this as a competitive advantage.
Each individual in Imatech embodies the fundamental values of the organization which are based on respect for customers, suppliers, colleagues and other stakeholders. Imatech employees are proud of their company's strong reputation and conduct their business ethically and uphold the highest levels of honesty and integrity.
Imatech employees are driven to provide lasting solutions, and are continually looking for the best available products to achieve this. The combined thinking power of our Product, Industrial and Regional experts enables the Imatech Team to think outside the square and regularly come up with innovative solutions to new and existing issues.
We believe that the ability to act faster and more innovative than our competition gives us an advantage in the markets we serve. The results have been phenomenal: since its inception in 1994, Imatech is growing at a compound rate of 40% per annum.
our history
Starting Imatech
International Materials & Technology, trading as Imatech, was incorporated in 1994 by the founder and current managing director, Warwick Rule. Warwick's work experience convinced him that there were great opportunities for advanced materials for the protection of process equipment in industry. After focused market research into the best available materials technologies worldwide, Warwick signed a distribution agreement with A.W. Chesterton Company, USA for representation of their Advanced Reinforced Composites (ARC) and Technical Maintenance Products in New South Wales, Australia. Imatech was born.
Rapid Growth
Imatech quickly expanded into the other States and eventually became the Master Distributor for these Chesterton products for the whole of Australia. In the years following, Imatech rapidly grew to approximately 40 employees in 2006, and expanded its presence in industry by delivering better and smarter solutions and by developing new, innovative business opportunities.
Imatech Safety Surfaces
An early example of one such developments by Imatech is the proprietary design of a range of high-performance safety surfaces suitable for harsh physical and chemical industrial conditions. These surfaces have since been evaluated by independent bodies as having the highest coefficient of friction of any commercial safety surface available.
Acquisition of Engineering Supplies (EST) Tasmania
Imatech also acquired the assets and technology of Engineering Supplies Tasmania (EST), which added retail distribution of the complete range of metal working tools to the company's product and service offering.
Creation of Imatech Water Technologies
In 2005, Imatech acquired the distribution rights t two advanced water treatment and filtration systems, VRTX and Zero Gravity Filters, and created a dedicated company Imatech Water Technologies to drive and develop the associated business.
Corro-Ceramics, the latest Imatech Innovation
One of the most exciting new products to be brought to market by Imatech in recent years is "CorroCube" and "CorroTile", a rubber-ceramic composite for ultra-resistant wear liners for heavy impact and sliding abrasion, as found in bulk materials handling applications. This product is rapidly gaining a very strong reputation in the Australian mining industry and further endorses Imatech's profile as a prominent supplier of high-technology and innovative solutions to industry.
Imatech Today
In the past 12 years, Imatech has grown into a diversified industrial systems and services company focused on delivering smarter solutions using the best available technologies combined with the unique problem-solving skills of its workforce.
Imatech currently employ around 40 people across Australia and has grown from a small business to a medium-large enterprise. Imatech has secured distribution rights to a great number of the best available industrial technologies, and what really sets Imatech apart from the rest is the quality, skills and commitment contained in its workforce. This powerful combination of hi-tech and skilled human resources provides a significant growth potential to the company well into the future.

Imatech's ultra-resistant wear liners deliver exceptionally long operational life and significantly reduced cost per tonne for chutes, feed bins, distribution boxes, impact deflectors, skirt liners etcetera.
Imatech's ultra-resistant wear liners are typically found in bulk material handling applications in any industry, but primarily in the Mining & Minerals Processing area.
Corrosion & Chemical-Resistant Coatings
Primarily consisting of A.W. Chesterton's ARC range of products, this is the longest serving product group within Imatech, delivering solutions to protect metals and concrete such as pumps, pipes, tanks and bunds from acids, alkalis, salts, process chemicals and chemical abrasive slurries.
Imatech applies these solutions in a wide variety of industries and applications, with a focus on Mining & Minerals Processing, Metal Manufacturing, Utilities and Power.
Abrasion Resistant Composites
Including several of Chesterton ARC ceramic composites, the products in this range provide ultra-resistant wear surfaces to protect critical equipment such as pipes, bends, pumps, cyclones, thickeners, flotation cells etc. from heavy impact and sliding abrasion and slurries.
These unique products combined with the innovative mind-set of Imatech have enabled the company to distinguish themselves in many very challenging applications in the Mining & Minerals Processing industry.
Metalworking Tools
With products such as Hougen magnetic drills and the product range of Engineering Supplies Tasmania, Imatech serves the entire Australian metalworking industry through a network of 150 distributors.
Workshop & Maintenance Chemicals
Through several wholesale and retail channels, Imatech distributes industrial state-of-the-art workshop & maintenance products such as assembly & disassembly compounds, water & solvent-based cleaners, surface lubricants and metal working fluids for general and specialist industrial applications.
With the innovative, fully automatic self-cleaning industrial filtration and magnetic separation technology Zero Gravity Filters (ZGF), Imatech offers arguably the best self-cleaning filter technology available today for water and metal working fluids. ZGF filters provide a lasting solution with minimal maintenance requirements for the protection of downstream plant, processes and products.
The revolutionary chemical-free water treatment system VRTX drives chemistry and destroys micro-organisms without the use of chemicals. With a track-record of 15 years in the treatment of cooling tower water and industrial process water, VRTX has demonstrated to consistently reduce the water usage as an additional benefit. These existing applications of this technology are only the tip of the iceberg and several new applications are being developed in the area of waste water treatment, providing exciting future prospects for Imatech in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
